Kinetic Typography Animator – Music Video for Avril Lavigne’s "I’m with You"
In this project, I designed and animated a Kinetic Typography sequence for Avril Lavigne’s "I’m with You" using Adobe After Effects, focusing on expressive text movements synchronized with the music’s rhythm and emotion.
- Design and Animation Approach:
- Applied core animation principles, including Squash and Stretch, Anticipation, Follow-through, Slow in/Slow out (easing), and Secondary Action, ensuring fluid, natural motion and visually compelling transitions.
- Carefully controlled position, size, velocity, and relative scale of text elements to create rhythmic patterns and emphasize lyrical beats.
- Integrated linear and non-linear directional movements to highlight key phrases dynamically.
- Visual Composition and Motion Choreography:
- Maintained a clear center of interest, using contrast between still and moving elements to guide the viewer’s focus.
- Aligned the relationship of movement to frame, ensuring text flowed seamlessly within the video’s visual space without overpowering the background elements.
- Balanced text animations with the song’s mood, adjusting timing and amplitude of movements to match emotional highs and lows.

- Incorporated digital photography and vector image elements, enriching the composition with layered textures and visual depth.
- Synchronized transitions with audio cues, blending text and imagery into a cohesive visual narrative.
Takeaways
This project enhanced my ability to synchronize kinetic typography with music, ensuring expressive and fluid motion through key animation principles. I refined my skills in visual composition and motion choreography, maintaining a clear focal point while balancing movement and stillness. Additionally, I deepened my expertise in After Effects by seamlessly integrating text, imagery, and audio into a cohesive visual narrative.
